Food Pantry
We are proud to be associated with Least of These Food Pantry. During the Covid 19 pandemic, the leadership at Least of These told us that for every $1 — or $1 worth of food — we donate, they can buy $10 worth of food and necessities. Therefore, instead of primarily donating non-perishable items, we changed our ways of giving. Currently we make homemade soups, chili, sandwiches, bakery items, etc., and sell them to the congregation and church visitors. The money raised is then given to Least of These so they can make a bigger impact in helping our community. In 2022 we donated $500 which they could use to by $5,000 worth of food with their buying power. During the spring and summer growing season we also take fresh vegetables from our own church garden or from a congregation member’s garden to the food pantry.
Ashley House For Girls
The Ashley house is a home for girls that are transitioning from youth to adult life. Many come from broken families so it’s sometimes a difficult time in their life to be able to live on their own. The house is run by Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services. Our church partners with the house leaders to provide monetary assistance as well as the upkeep of the gardens in their walking park area. We regularly have different fun nights like hotdog roast and bonfire at someone’s house to game night at the church. The Ashley house girls are always invited and eager to participate.
Community Action
Our congregation is deeply involved with the community at large. We participate in activities such as the Salvation Army bell ringing and having a neighborhood garden to grow fruit and vegetables to donate. Once a year we joint Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to fill what is commonly called PDA Buckets. The buckets contain cleaning supplies and are sent to areas of natural destruction for cleaning up debris. In the past, we took buckets with us as part of a mission trip for helping communities that were affected by floods. It is our hope to return to these mission trips because it was a rewarding experience to all that participated as well as the information sent back daily on our accomplishments.
